7th District lawmakers discuss session work and affordability on KPQ Radio with Chris Hansen

During a Feb. 13 KPQ Legislative Hotline interview, Reps. Hunter Abell and Andrew Engell talked about the pace of the legislative session and the long hours often required to debate major bills. Abell said lawmakers stay on the House floor as long as needed to address consequential legislation and represent their constituents.

Engell said affordability remains the top concern he hears from residents, citing rising costs for housing, fuel, groceries, and childcare. Both lawmakers said they are focused on policies aimed at easing cost-of-living pressures and supporting economic stability in communities across the region.

Abell and Engell also addressed a proposed state income tax, saying they have received strong feedback from constituents opposed to the measure. Engell noted Washington voters have historically rejected similar proposals, while Abell said the public response this year has been significant.

The lawmakers said they will continue to monitor the proposal and advocate for approaches they believe strengthen economic growth while keeping Washington affordable.
